Repeat is the goal
With a week of training camp completed, the Los Angeles Lakers are set to start preseason and defend their title Wednesday, October 7.
Fresh off the championship season Coach Phil Jackson has never seen his players in better shape than they are this training camp.
During the summer: Lamar Odom took boxing lessons, Andrew Bynum worked out with his personal trainer back in Atlanta, Pau Gasol played with his Spanish National team in the European Championship, Derek Fisher wrote a book and Kobe Bryant did something that us regular people can relate and that is rest!
The team is excited to start defending their title but they also are excited to see how it is going to be to play with new teammate Ron Artest.
Artest has been pretty busy himself this summer as he bonded with Laker fans that other Laker players wouldn’t. It includes giving out his cell number, e-mail, and inviting fans to come bowl with him.
The funny man who does what he wants when he wants has become a fan favorite before he has done anything in a Lakers’ uniform, but NBA experts doubt the Lakers signing of Artest and said it will not work.
The man who is known for the 2004 brawl in Deriot has been on his best behavior ever since and has become a team player that only wants to win.
Artest will be given the task to defend the other team’s best player. It will give Bryant less pressure to deal with on defense that will allow him to do more on offense, and that’s what will make this signing a great one.
Also bringing back the ‘Candyman’ Lamar Odom didn’t hurt since the Lakers keep their endless choices of weapons in place.
Odom leading the bench is a bonus that any team would love, he makes the Lakers unstoppable and have the best bench in the league.
Jordan Farmar who changed his jersey number to No. 1 has a big season coming to him as he will continue to battle for minutes with teammates Derek Fisher and Shannon Brown.
Farmar is on a contract year and if he wants to be the Lakers starting point guard in the future than this is the year he has to make it happen or less we will be seeing him in a new jersey next season.
With a competitive team with each other and together the Lakers are looking fresh and ready to go, so let’s get it boys, let’s go get No. 16.
